Choosing the right dollhouse
By Michael Kyhnel of The Doll House Cafe
When you shop for dollhouses, you look at the pictures and get impressed by the small details and the fantastic decorations you see on the pictures on how your dollhouse will look like when it’s done. But before you get that far, there is some work ahead, and depending on the house, you will face from a few hours of assembly and up to 40-50 hours of “construction” work before you are done. You can divide the types of dollhouse up into 3 different groups: 1. Ready To Play Dollhouses. 2. Quick Build Dollhouses 3. Dollhouse Kits If we start up with the ”ready to play” dollhouses, you will have the option of the “small kids” dollhouse or the dollhouse kits that have been pre- assembled from the manufacture. The small kid’s dollhouse is mostly an open and robust construction. In many instances they include furniture and are as the name suggests ready to play, you will just have to do a small amount of assembly with tools provided with the dollhouse. The pre-assembled dollhouses kits is as the name imply a dollhouse kit the manufacture have decided to assembly and decorate with wallpaper paint, and you will see that you can get the exact same house as a regular dollhouse kit to almost ½ the price. And the difference is of course the work and accessories you will have to put into the house for it to look good. The next category is the Quick build type, and they normally come with everything except furniture. The assembly of those houses can normally be done without use of any tools and in some cases also without glue. For this type of house you should expect an assembly time from 1 to 8 hours. This brings us to the last category; The dollhouse kits. This type of dollhouse is in my opinion the most fun to get, it involve the most of the family thus it require the house to be glued together which is a process that will get a great deal of attention from the guys in the house, so even if the dollhouse is for your daughter you will see your son(s) and husband trying to jump into the project and “help” out getting the house to the stage of decoration. This type of dollhouse normally only include the house itself, you will have to get shingles, sidings, wallpaper, paint and furniture and other decoration to finish the dollhouse. It may sound a lot but it’s a really fun project to take on. This type of Dollhouse will take you from 8 to 50 hours to build depending of the size and complexity.
